HC Deb 13 May 1991 vol 191 c35W
Mr. Hardy

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment has been made of which of the poisonous chemicals held at the premises of Wath Recycling are considered to be potentially the most harmful to health.

Mr. Dorrell

I understand that material for recycling delivered to the Wath site was found to be contaminated with pesticides. Responsibility for the control and safety of toxic waste is a matter for the South Yorkshire waste disposal authority, a statutory body set up by the local authorities in the area. They are advised by the Health and Safety Executive. The Department can advise local authorities or Government Departments on possible health effects of chemicals if asked to do so.
