To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the average length of time between each notification of an unexplained death and the determination of cause of death by a coroner in each of the past two years, for(a) England and (b) Medway.

I regret that this information is not collected centrally. I understand that coroners endeavour to hold inquests as soon as practicable following the death, but sometimes delays are experienced because of the need to wait for witnesses or other evidence.
