Mr. Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what were the numbers of places, total cost, and cost per place of places under the assisted places scheme at each school in Newcastle upon Tyne for each of the last five years.

Mr. Fallon

The information requested is given in the tables, but figures in respect of the academic years prior to 1988–89 are not readily available. The Church high school joined the assisted places scheme from the start of the 1989–90 academic year.
