Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will give separate figures for the spending by the Export Credits Guarantee Department on(a) television advertising, (b) radio advertising, (c) newspaper advertising and (d) other promotional material in 1979–80 and in each following year; and what are his latest estimates for 1990–91 and budgets for 1991–92.

Figures of expenditure by ECGD on press and public relations, broken down where possible between press advertising and other promotional expenditure, are as follows:

For the years 1979–80 to 1984–85, the expenditure was recorded by the Central Office of Information as an allied service. The budget for 1991–92 has still to be finalised, and will depend on developments in the privatisation process.
