HC Deb 02 May 1991 vol 190 c287W
Mr. David Marshall

to ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the total mileage of urban motorway in each urban area of Scotland(a) already constructed and in operation, (b) under construction at present and (c) planned for the future.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Details of public road lengths by region and class as at 1 April 1990 are given in table 5.2 of "Scottish Transport Statistics 1989". The figures for Strathclyde region include 47 km of motorway within the Glasgow city boundary. As urban motorways are the responsibility of local roads authorities, their construction and planning are dependent on local authority processing of statutory procedures and availability of finance. These plans are subject to change. Currently under construction by Strathclyde region is 4.6 km of non-trunk urban motorway—part of the M80 Stepps bypass, which is a joint scheme with the Scottish Office.
