§ Mr. BowisTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give the amount of standard spending assessment for further education allocated to each local education authority, the principles on which this is allocated, including the formula used for student numbers, and the effect on the standard spending assessment, if any, of income generated by further education colleges.
§ Mr. KeyThe standard spending assessment (SSA) element for post-16 education in 1991–92 is given in the table for each authority. The assessment includes provision for school pupils aged 16 years as well as those in further education. A separate element for further education is not identified. Details of the formula used to calculate this SSA and the overall number of students aged 16 years and over are given in the Revenue Support Grant Distribution Report (England) as amended by the Revenue Support Grant Distribution (Amendment) Report (England)—copies of these are in the Library. An estimate of fee and other income received by colleges is taken into account in calculating this element of the education SSA.
