HL Deb 26 March 1991 vol 527 c57WA
Earl Nelson

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the estimated annual cost to the Exchequer of evasion of payment of the motor vehicle road fund licence.

Lord Brabazon of Tara

Based on a roadside survey carried out by the Department of Transport in June 1989, the best estimate of the revenue lost through vehicle excise duty evasion in Great Britain during the financial year ended 31st March 1990 is £104 million or 3 ½ per cent. of the amount due.
