HC Deb 25 March 1991 vol 188 c276W
Mr. Ralph Howell

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is his estimate of the number of persons in the world who were starving, assessed on the basis of the OECD reports in 1961, 1971 and 1981.

Mrs. Chalker

According to the OECD no such assessments have been made. The most recent report available to us is the latest assessment by the World Food Programme that up to 29 million people may be at risk of starvation in 25 sub-Saharan African countries.
