HC Deb 25 March 1991 vol 188 c317W
Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will order a survey of noise pollution caused by traffic on the bridge on the M27 over the River Hamble and undertake appropriate noise reduction measures.

Mr. Chope

No; when the secton of the M27 which includes the Hamble bridge was built in the 1970s, all the eligible properties were offered noise insulation in accordance with the provisions of the Land Compensation Act 1973 and the related Noise Insulation Regulations. Part I of the 1973 Act also enabled eligible residents subsequently to claim compensation for depreciation in value of their property due to physical factors, including noise, attributable to the motorway.
