HL Deb 25 March 1991 vol 527 cc52-4WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many occasions have they offered advice to the media on the basis of the eight standing D-Notices; what these standing D-Notices are; and to what extent the Government's advice was accepted and acted upon.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Defence (The Earl of Arran):

I have placed in the Library of the House copies of the eight D Notices current since 1982. Advice under these is offered by the Secretary of the Defence Press and Broadcasting Committee, who is responsible to both sides of the committee. I understand that data are not readily available on how often advice has been given since 1982.
