HC Deb 19 March 1991 vol 188 cc99-100W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the number of samples of food analysed since 1988 by his pesticide residue monitoring programme which have exceeded the levels set in the Pesticide (Maximum Residue Levels in Food) Regulations 1988, giving the name of the pesticide in each case; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gummer

The full results of monitoring for pesticide residues in food were published in September 1990 in the "Report of the Working Party on Pesticide Residues 1988–89." A copy of the report is available in the Library of the House.

Dr. David Clark

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the numbers of prosecutions made in each year since 1988 which have been taken as a result of the maximum pesticide residue levels in food having been exceeded; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gummer

No prosecutions have been taken under the Pesticides (Maximum Residue Levels in Food) Regulations 1988, but one consignment of Chinese rabbit has been refused entry into the United Kingdom because it was found to contain residues in excess of United Kingdom limits.

Where residues above United Kingdom or international maximum residue levels have been found in monitoring, action has been taken as described in the "Report of the Working Party on Pesticide Residues 1988–89." A copy of the report is available in the Library of the House.
