HL Deb 19 March 1991 vol 527 c19WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have reached any conclusions on the best way to enhance security and verification measures in the Gulf and Middle East region.

The Earl of Caithness:

It is for the states of the region to decide for themselves on new arrangements for their own security. We welcome the useful start made by the recent meetings between Foreign Ministers of the six Gulf states, Egypt and Syria. If asked, we stand ready to play a part.
