HC Deb 18 March 1991 vol 188 c46W
Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what applications have been received from local water authorities in Scotland for water grants to enable them to meet EC water and sewerage requirements.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

[holding answer 15 March 1991]: Central Government grants are not specifically directed at EC water and sewerage requirements. From 1 April 1990, however, 90 applications have been received from Scottish water authorities for grant under the Rural Water Supplies and Sewerage Acts 1944–70 which can include items for meeting EC standards. In addition, an application for sewerage improvement grant under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 has been received from each regional and islands council in respect of its 1991–92 capital expenditure programme for sewerage, including EC-related works.
