HC Deb 14 March 1991 vol 187 cc645-6W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he proposes to make extra resources available to meet the requirements of the national curriculum in technology and design.

Sir Wyn Roberts

Additional funding has been provided and existing resources redirected under the specific grants for education support and training schemes to help local education authorities with the progressive implementation of all subjects within the national curriculum, including technology. It is not possible to identify support given for a particular subject, but approved expenditure related to the national curriculum under these specific grant programmes rose from almost £7 million in 1989–90 to just under £10 million in the current financial year. This will rise again to over £14.5 million in 1991–92 and we intend to continue support in future years.

Mrs. Clwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish a table showing for(a) each local authority, (b) each class of authority and (c) Wales as a whole, the capital receipts accumulated by 31 March and his estimates of the amount set aside as provision for credit liabilities in 1990–91 from (i) housing capital receipts, (ii) non-housing capital receipts and (iii) all capital receipts.

Mr. David Hunt

The table shows total cash-backed accumulated receipts at 31 March 1990. The amount each authority has set aside as provision for credit liabilities in 1990–91 is not available centrally.

Local education authorities are being asked to target expenditure on the needs of pupils directly affected by the phased introduction of the core and foundation subjects of the national curriculum. Technology commenced implementation into schools from August 1990.
