§ Mr. Peter Lloyd[holding answer 12 March 1991]: Reliable estimates of the number of applications for 653W asylum in the United Kingdom in January and February 1991 by nationality and date of arrival are not yet available. However, provisional indications are of a total of more than 3,000 principal applications, excluding associated dependants, in each month. This figure does not include applications for upgrading to refugee status by those previously granted exceptional leave.
