HC Deb 14 March 1991 vol 187 cc669-70W
Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what information he has in respect of the number of nitrogen oxide monitoring stations in each of the OECD countries.

Mr. Baldry

No central records are kept of the numbers of nitrogen oxide monitoring stations in each of the OECD countries. Within Europe, nitrogen oxide monitoring data are compiled by the chemical co-ordinating centre of the UN ECE EMEP programme at the Norwegian Institute for Air Research. Of the 108 EMEP monitoring stations operated by the 28 European countries, 25 stations reported nitrogen oxide monitoring data in 1985.
