HL Deb 14 March 1991 vol 527 c9WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What information they have about Mr. Taher Shriteh, journalist of Gaza, alleged to have been arrested, confined in a cell 5 feet by 2 ½ feet, with no food for four days and subjected to torture; and whether they are continuing to remind the Israeli authorities of their duties under human rights conventions.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (The Earl of Caithness):

According to our information Mr. Shriteh was arrested on 28th January and released on bail on 7th March. He has made allegations of ill-treatment which we have taken up with the Israelis. We regularly remind the Israelis of their duty to administer the Occupied Territories in accordance with the provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
