HC Deb 12 March 1991 vol 187 cc457-8W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has had from teachers of history concerning the national curriculum; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Wyn Roberts

Representations have been made from time to time on a variety of matters concerning the national curriculum by individual history teachers, or via the Association of History Teachers in Wales.

More recently representations have been made by 10 individual history teachers or teachers responding through their local education authority and the Association of History Teachers in Wales on the draft order for history in the national curriculum and on the proposals for the study of all national curriculum subjects by pupils aged 14 to 16 years—key stage 4.

Following the extensive consultation which has taken place, an order for history will shortly be placed before the House under the provisions of the Education Reform Act. In due course proposals for the study of all national curriculum subjects at key stage 4 will be published for consultation.
