§ Mr. Simon CoombsTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is his latest estimate of the date on which construction works for the widening of the M4 between the M25 and Swindon will start; and if he will make a statement on the progress of preliminary works.
§ Mr. ChopeWe have three separate scheme commissions looking at the options for widening the length of M4 betweeen the M25 and Swindon. All three are progressing satisfactorily and we aim to make announcements about preferred options before the end of the year. Because timing is heavily dependent on the type of works proposed the planned programme will be part of those announcements.
