HC Deb 07 March 1991 vol 187 cc264-5W
Mr. Hinchliffe

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what are the reasons for the decision to reduce the salary level of the post of head of his social services inspectorate.

Mr. Dorrell

The chief inspector, social services inspectorate, post was advertised recently at a salary level up to the top of the grade 3 pay scale with the possibility of a higher amount for an exceptionally well qualified candidate. The new grade reflects the findings of an internal review of the Department's senior posts which included an examination of the duties of the chief inspector post. It does not affect in any way the postholder's reporting arrangements within the Department or his—or her—access to Ministers.
