HC Deb 07 March 1991 vol 187 c268W
16. Mr. Loyden

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from the chief constable for Merseyside on the present manning levels of the Merseyside police force.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

The Merseyside police authority made an application for 49 additional police posts in 1991–92. On the advice of Her Majesty's chief inspector of constabulary, I have approved five extra police posts from 1 October 1991.

19. Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what will be the implications of the 1991–92 Merseyside police authority budget settlement on the police establishment.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

The establishment of the Merseyside police, as I authorised, will not be affected by the police authority's budget settlement. It is for the authority to decide how many posts in the establishment should be filled.
