To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has to extend community radio.

Since 1 January 1991 the development of all forms of independent local radio, including community radio, has been the responsibility of the new Radio Authority established under the Broadcasting Act 1990. I understand that the authority aims to issue licences for 20 to 30 new independent local radio stations each year.
