To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the Government's policy for the future on double taxation of building societies.

Mr. Maude

There is no double taxation of building societies.

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what progress has been made in making provisions for the repayment to building societies of tax paid under the transitional provisions of the Income Tax (Building Societies) Regulations 1986.

It would not be appropriate to comment on the tax affairs of individual building societies.

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations he has received from the Building Societies Association and the building societies on the repayments to building societies of tax paid under the transitional provisions of the Income Tax (Building Societies) Regulations 1986.

Various representations have been received from the Building Societies Association and from some individual building societies.

each of the acute specialty units at (a) Royal Victoria hospital, Belfast, (b) Belfast City hospital, (c) Mater hospital, Belfast and (d) Ulster hospital.
