HC Deb 24 June 1991 vol 193 cc377-8W
Mr. Wray

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received from Scottish Action on Dementia; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

I have this week received a report "Dementia in Scotland: Agenda for Action 1991–95".

Since the publication of the report "Scottish Health Authorities Priorities for the 80s" (SHAPE) in 1980, which drew attention to the need to develop services for this care group, the Government have given high priority to the development of such services in Scotland and now accord their development top priority. Since 1981 health board expenditure on services for elderly people with dementia has increased by 61.5 per cent. in real terms and it continues to rise.
