HC Deb 19 June 1991 vol 193 c232W
Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has any plans to review the role of the Crown Estate as a quasi-planning authority in marine fish farming.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The Government have accepted the view of the Select Committee on Agriculture that the system of regulation of the marine fish farming industry should develop in an evolutionary manner. The Scottish Office is currently preparing revised guidance on the location and siting of marine fish farms in consultation with the Crown Estate and other relevant interests. This guidance will examine carefully the environmental impact of marine fish farms and will set out clearly the parameters within which the industry should develop in the future.
