HC Deb 19 June 1991 vol 193 c193W
Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what consultation he has had since his appointment on the subject of economic measures to increase environmental protection.

Mr. Heseltine

There is widespread debate in the United Kingdom and internationally about the use of economic measures to supplement regulation as a means of protecting the environment. My Department continues to be closely involved. The Government's approach to these matters was described in chapter 1 and annex A of the White Paper "This Common Inheritance"—Cm 1200—published last September.
