The recently established South Thames training and enterprise council which became operational on 17 May 175W with a budget of £17.971 million has, as one of its primary objectives, the improvement of commitment among employers to training their employees. The TEC chairman, John Roberts, is managing director of Post Office Counters based in Southwark, which has an exemplary record in training its employees and was national training award winners in 1989, training 1,300 employees.
