HC Deb 18 June 1991 vol 193 c158W
Mr. John Browne

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence why metal detectors were not used to clear the specific areas in which the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards were planning to dig trenches whilst engaged on an exercise in July 1989 on the battalion's live firing training area where blind rounds could be expected to be encountered.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

There is considerable amount of metal debris on the range, making the use of metal detectors to locate live ammunition impracticable.
