To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is the nature of the current repair works to the Thornbridge viaduct of the M6 motorway in Birmingham; and how long the work will last.

Two contracts are currently under way for the installation of cathodic protection systems on the viaduct substructure. The first, involving work to crossbeams between Beeches road and Thornbridge avenue should be completed by mid July. This is slightly later than previously anticipated because of the need for unforeseen additional works. A second similar contract south of Thornbridge avenue commenced in April and is due to finish next March.
