HC Deb 18 June 1991 vol 193 c82W
Mr. Prescott

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when the British Rail board will announce its decision on the tenders it has received for class 165 electrical multiple unit four-car sets for the class 341 carriages and the 471 carriages.

Mr. Rifkind

This is a matter for the British Railways Board. However, I understand that 180 class 165 and 59 class 165/2 diesel vehicles are on order for the Network SouthEast lines into Paddington and Marylebone. The first of these vehicles will enter regular service in October. It is not envisaged that any further orders for class 165 vehicles will be placed in the near future. No tenders have yet been invited for class 341 or class 471 electric multiple units.
