HC Deb 18 June 1991 vol 193 cc148-9W
Mr. Lawrence

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assistance, financial or otherwise, has been given to non-governmental organisations in each of the past five years for the control of drug abuse or for the care of victims.

Mr. Dorrell

The provision of treatment and rehabilitation services for drug misusers is the responsibility of local health authorities to whom the Government have made increasing sums available as set out in the table. Non-governmental organisations form an important part of service delivery, supported by regional earmarked allocations. Information is not held centrally on the proportion of money spent by regions on statutory and non-governmental organisations.

Between 1983 and 1991 £17.5 million was also made available under the time-limited central funding initiative (CFI). Details of this and other moneys made available by the Department for allocating direct to non-governmental organisations in the years in question are included in the table.
