HC Deb 17 June 1991 vol 193 c32W
45. Mr. Hain

to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will give the breakdown for the latest year for which figures are available of the proportion of overseas aid as a percentage of gross domestic product allocated to Africa, Asia, Latin America and the remaining areas of the world.

Mrs. Chalker

In 1989 the proportion of United Kingdom gross national product devoted to official development assistance was 0.31 per cent. There is no geographical breakdown for the destination of official development assistance. In 1988, the latest year for which figures are available, the geographical distribution of gross public expenditure on aid including our contributions through multilateral agencies, was as follows: Africa 44 per cent.; Asia 31 per cent.; Latin America 4 per cent.; other 8 per cent.; unallocated 13 per cent.
