HC Deb 11 June 1991 vol 192 c496W
Sir Michael McNair-Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the relationship between the blood transfusion service and the national health service hospital trusts; whether it is intended to give the service its own trust status; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dorrell

The establishment of NHS trusts has had no effect on the relationship between hospitals and the regional transfusion centres—RTCs—which continue to supply blood to all hospitals on a basis of clinical need. There are no current applications from RTCs for trust status.
