§ Mr. PatchettTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment what steps he will take to encourage the growth of employment in the tourism industry in Yorkshire.
§ Mr. Forth[holding answer 7 June 1991]: In 1989 there were 127,800 people employed in the tourism industry in the Yorkshire and Humberside region, 24 per cent. more than in 1984. The Government will encourage further employment growth by reducing inflation, continuing our 442W financial support for tourism and promoting enterprise and training through the network of training and enterprise councils now established in the region. The industry must also play its part by negotiating realistic pay settlements.
