HC Deb 10 June 1991 vol 192 c456W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will define the new responsibilities given to the Minister of State for Wales with regard to the development of rail links between Holyhead and London.

Sir Wyn Roberts

As part of my responsibility for co-ordination of initiatives for urban renewal in Holyhead I have taken a close interest in rail services.

The provision of services will nevertheless remain a matter for British Rail to determine.

Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many meetings have so far been chaired by the Minister of State for Wales of the various organisations with a direct interest in improving the co-ordination of transport services from Holyhead to London; if he will state what organisations were represented at those meetings; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Wyn Roberts

The provision of transport services is a matter for transport operators. I have had several meetings with interested parties including my hon. Friend the Minister for Public Transport, local authorities and British Rail. On 3 June I chaired a meeting of organisations interested in all aspects of the regeneration of Holyhead at which British Rail was represented.
