HL Deb 04 June 1991 vol 529 c39WA
Lord Renwick

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have plans to require the provision determined in Part III of statements of special educational needs to be quantified.

Baroness Blatch:

There are established statutory regulations, made under the Education Act 1981, which set out the form and contents of statements of special educational needs. Local education authorities are already required to specify, in a child's statement, his special educational needs and the special educational provision, in terms of facilities and equipment, and of staffing arrangements, curriculum or otherwise, that they consider appropriate to meet those needs. This includes, if appropriate, any modifications to or disapplications of the national curriculum.
