HC Deb 03 June 1991 vol 192 cc71-2W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons in England and Wales imprisoned for committing a sexual offence have been released on licence in each month of 1990 and 1991 to date; how many years each person had actually served in prison since conviction; what was their original sentence; and how many such persons have since been re-imprisoned for committing a further criminal offence.

Mrs. Rumbold

Provisional figures for sex offenders released from prison service establishments on licence during 1990 by sentence length are as tabulated. I regret that the statistics on time served in prison since conviction and on re-imprisonment for committing a further criminal offence could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. In general, prisoners serving sentences of over 12 months receive one third remission of sentence less any deduction made for offences against prison discipline. The time served by those released on licence is further reduced by the period of the licence. Data for 1991 are not yet available.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

All the prison establishments listed in that answer receive their coal supplies from British Coal.
