HC Deb 25 July 1991 vol 195 cc893-4W
Mr. Michael

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what response he has made to the views of(a) the Vale of Glamorgan community health council and (b) South Glamorgan health authority in regard to the loss of £6 million from the future resource allocation to the South Glamorgan health authority.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

The new system of weighted compensation, which is based on the resident population of a health authority's area and which takes into account such factors as age structure morbidity is a much fairer system than the previous system based on service provision.

It is being introduced over a period of time to allow health authorities to adjust. South Glamorgan hospitals will be able to make contracts to provide health care with other health authorities in Wales.

The health authority's response to the consultation document, along with those from other Welsh DHAs, was taken fully into consideration when deciding on a weighted capitation formula for Wales. No communication has been received from the Vale of Glamorgan community health council on the subject.
