To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland of how many instances he is aware of pupils who live within the appropriate catchment area being denied places in schools which have pupils from outwith the catchment area on their rolls as a result of placing requests.

Since August 1990, two letters have been received in the Scottish Office from parents with children of school age who moved into a catchment area but at that time were unable to secure a place for their child at their local school.
