- (a) total spending per local education authority;
- (b) per pupil expenditure per local education authority;
- (c) total spending; and
- (d) average expenditure per pupil.

Combined figures in respect of books and equipment are given because not all local authorities' returns to government departments give separate figures for books and for equipment. Information for England is not yet available.
