HL Deb 25 July 1991 vol 531 cc80-1WA
Baroness David

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What was the expenditure on school books in 1989–90 in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales respectively in the following categories:

  1. (a) total spending per local education authority;
  2. (b) per pupil expenditure per local education authority;
  3. (c) total spending; and
  4. (d) average expenditure per pupil.

Baroness Blatch

The available information on spending and per pupil expenditure on books and equipment is shown in the table. Combined figures in respect of books and equipment are given because not all local authorities' returns to government departments give separate figures for books and for equipment. Information for England is not yet available.
