To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much of the United Kingdom's wine imports come from the European Community.

A total of 93 per cent. of the value of United Kingdom imports of wine in 1990 came from other EC countries.

To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what are the relative contributions to the United Kingdom's balance of trade of spirits and wine.

In 1990 the United Kingdom's crude trade surplus in spirits was valued at £1,679 million and the crude deficit in wine at £951 million.
