Mr. Straw

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish a table giving the estimated total number of teachers employed by each of the inner London boroughs, with an aggregate total, for the latest available date, and his estimate of the pupil:teacher ratio, and average class size for primary and secondary schools in each borough, with comparable figures for the former Inner London education authority for each of the preceding five years.

Mr. Eggar

The latest available information is for January 1990. The only information at that date for the inner London boroughs relates to teachers and classes within schools. The table shows the latest available information.

The apportionment between capital and running costs in future years has yet to be determined. The planning figures are as follows:

£ million
1992–93 47.53
1993–94 48.65
1994–95 49.86
