Mr. Robert HughesTo ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry when he received from the company Cork Gully Ltd. a report on the conduct of the company Aberdeen Shipbuilders Ltd. consequent on Aberdeen Shipbuilders Ltd. going into receivership; what action his Department intends to take.
§ Mr. Redwood[holding answer 23 July 1991]: Aberdeen Shipbuilders Ltd. was the parent company of the Hall Russell Group which comprised Hall Russell Ltd. and Hall Russell Offshore Ltd. Aberdeen Shipbuilders Ltd. did not itself go into receivership, being dormant when the other two group companies failed in November/December 1988. It is not now listed on the Registry at Companies house, Edinburgh.
In the course of administering the Company Directors Disqualification Act 1986 the disqualification unit of my Department did receive and investigate reports on the conduct of the directors submitted by the insolvency practitioners dealing with the receiverships of Hall Russell Ltd. and Hall Russell Offshore Ltd. Legal advice was taken, but it was considered that there was no case to answer.
