HC Deb 22 July 1991 vol 195 cc428-9W
Mr. Graham

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many farms are in use in Renfrewshire; if he will list them; and how many people they employ.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

Scottish counties ceased to be used for agricultural statistics purposes after 1975 following local government reform. For the June 1990 census returns there were 269 main farm holdings in Refrew district of Strathclyde region with 316 full-time or part-time working farmers and spouses, and employing 169 full-time workers and 158 part-time and casual workers. This information is collected for statistical purposes under the Agriculture Act 1947 which restricts disclosure of information on individual holdings. It is thus not permissible to list the individual holdings in Renfrew district.
