HC Deb 18 July 1991 vol 195 c230W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list what(a) measures and (b) standards to mitigate the environmental impact of the M11 link road through Leyton and Leytonstone were applied.

Mr. Chope

A fundamental objective during the development of the design of the A12 Hackney-M11 link road has been to mitigate the environmental impact of the road. The selection of a route which runs alongside the railway line and below ground level and in places in tunnel show how this has been achieved. Retaining walls have been used to minimise land take. Provision will be made for noise insulation to houses nearby, shrubs and trees will be planted, and land is to be made available for public use in exchange for areas of open space to be acquired in connection with the scheme.
