HC Deb 15 July 1991 vol 195 c34W
Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Minister of Aggriculture, Fisheries and Food what assessment he has made concerning the safety of monosodium glutamate as a food additive; and if he has any proposals to regulate its use.

Mr. Curry

The flavour modifier monosodium glutamate has been assessed by the Government's independent expert advisory committees and found to be safe for use in food. Conditions of use are set out in the Miscellaneous Additives in Food Regulations 1980, as amended. The substance is not permitted in foods specially prepared for infants and young children.
