Mr. Alan WilliamsTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales how much has been received from the sale of council houses in Wales since 1979; how much of this sum has been kept by the councils; and how much has gone to central Government.
§ Mr. Nicholas BennettCapital receipts from council house sales have totalled £734 million from 1981–82 to 1990–91. These receipts are not, and never have been, returned to central Government but are used by councils themselves either to finance new capital expenditure or to redeem debt.
