HC Deb 10 July 1991 vol 194 cc385-6W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what incentives his Department employs to encourage everyone to visit a dental practitioner every six months.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

The frequency of examination appropriate for maintaining oral health will vary from individual to individual depending on clinical circumstances. Both the new continuing care arrangements for adult patients and the capitation arrangements for child patients allow dentists the flexibility to give specific advice to patients to accommodate individual clinical needs.

Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what guidance his Department has issued to schools in Wales regarding the effect of milk consumption on oral health.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

None. However, general nutritional advice is issued by the Health Promotion Authority for Wales.

Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many health authorities in Wales currently provide dental screening for(a) all pre-schools playgroup children, (b) primary and junior school children twice a year and (c) secondary school children annually.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

This information is not held centrally. However, district health authorities are required

  1. (d) include a statement of property owners'/agricultural tenants' rights on the certificates which an applicant for planning permission is required to serve on those who own or have an interest in land for which the application is made.

My right hon. Friends have also made the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) (Amendment) Order 1991, which places dry-cleaning establishments, but not launderettes, in the shops use class (Al) of the order. This order will also come into force on 31 July.
