Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the export activities of International Military Services within Iraq.

Mr. Alan Clark

International Military Services has at all times complied with Government policy and export licence regulations in conducting business in Iraq as elsewhere.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what consultation or contact he has had with W. S. Atkins and Partners or any people associated with W. S. Atkins and Partners regarding the future of International Military Services.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what information his Department has about the engagement of employees of International Military Services on defence-related projects or contracts in Iraq after May 1988;

(2) what information his Department has about the engagement of employees of W. S. Atkins and Partners on defence-related construction projects in Iraq after May 1988.

It is not our normal practice to comment on the activities of employees of particular firms, except where there is evidence that Government policy has been breached.
