HC Deb 04 July 1991 vol 194 c188W
Mr. Hunter

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a further statement on his policy regarding the direct provision to the public of dentures by denturists.

Mr. Dorrell

The General Dental Council may make regulations to establish classes of dental auxiliaries who may undertake dental work. These may not, however, permit auxiliaries to fit, insert or fix dentures or artificial teeth. It is considered that only registered dental or medical practitioners are competent to recognise pathological conditions which may be caused or exacerbated by dentures.
